Integral Theory
Integral theory states that there are 4 foundational pieces to humanity, essentially, or 4 ways in which we view the world. By breaking these 4 pieces down, and supporting or nurturing each individual piece, we can hopefully heal some longstanding wounds/trauma, and learn to fight the need to drown our pain in alcohol.
The 4 pieces
The first piece is our internal individual, the “I”. It is comprised of our internal thoughts, memories, personal philosophies, personal spirituality, perceptions and our overall state of mind.
The second piece is our external, shared individual, the “It”. The It is comprise of our shared values and meanings - language, relationships, cultural norms, etc.
Pieces continued…
The third piece is the world of our individual exterior self - the “We”. This is our material body, our brain, anything you can see and touch. Your physical self.
Lastly,
We have our 4th and final piece, the external collective - the “Its”. This is comprised of our systems, networks, government, and natural environment, essentially the external body of the world.
